Lorrie Reynolds [00:00:08]:
Welcome to the 1st Maximum Fun Agility podcast. I'm Lorrie Reynolds, owner of Maximum Fun Dog Sports. We help both halves of an agility team build their relationships, communication, confidence, and fun in training so that they can joyfully succeed on any course. In this episode, I'll share why I created this podcast, who I hope to help, and what topics I plan to cover. I'm so excited to be here today recording the very first episode of the Maximum Fun Agility podcast. I know that agility people are busy. We have high energy dogs, families, jobs, and lots of responsibilities. It makes sense that someone with a high drive or high energy dog would not have a whole lot of time to sit down and read things on the computer or go back and reread emails that contained many lessons they wanted to review.
Lorrie Reynolds [00:01:01]:
More and more, busy people are turning to podcasts or other types of audio to get information because they can listen on the go. It's easy to listen in the car on the way to class or a competition. You can catch up on podcasts while you're out walking your high energy dog. Although, I also wanna remind you that during walks can be prime training time. When people who are competing have downtime between runs that they're not spending volunteering, they can easily pop in some headphones and play an episode or 2. There is some agility information that really requires visuals to fully explain the content. But for many aspects of training, a mini lecture is a great way to learn a new concept or reinforce something you've already learned. If any of the episodes would be enhanced by having a visual reference, I'll point you over to a corresponding article on my website that has diagrams or embedded video to help clarify the content.
Lorrie Reynolds [00:01:59]:
Here's what you can expect as far as content I'm planning for the podcast and also what you won't hear. I'm planning to cover many of the same topics in the podcast that I've written articles about, but I won't just be reading the articles verbatim. You can get software to do that for you. I'll expand on some areas and turn visuals into descriptive words wherever possible. I'll tell stories about real people, students, and my own dogs. The episodes will include training tips about a wide variety of topics, including training mechanics, how to determine and stick to criteria, planning your training and goal setting, training session design for maximum impact, reward methods, timing and placement, training methods, and much more. Since my greatest passion is distance handling, you can be sure that quite a few episodes will touch upon ways to build confidence and use tools that can help teams work further apart while staying connected and in sync. Some episodes will be about mindset.
Lorrie Reynolds [00:03:05]:
For example, how to overcome nervousness, when to ignore bad advice, how to build your confidence, and how to increase your dog's confidence. Other episodes will have concrete steps to teach a skill or overcome a roadblock. There will be puppy episodes as I train my new puppy and end of life episodes to help you deal with grief. I promise I'll provide a tissue warning when needed. You can expect a big emphasis on having fun with your training. I think agility should be a game we play where both halves of the team enjoy themselves. I think the sport as a whole thrives when we have a supportive community that enjoys cheering others on and pitching in together to make things happen. And I think the kinder we are to beginners and young people who are interested in agility, the better off we will be in the future.
Lorrie Reynolds [00:03:58]:
Those are the highlights, but there is a whole pile of topics that I haven't listed here that live in some form on my hard drive. I'll be pulling those out 1 by 1 to create interesting, useful, and fun content. I have no plans so far to have guests or interview people, although that isn't completely out of the question sometime in the future. What you won't hear is a bunch of advertising for products that I would make money off of. I may suggest something from time to time, but it won't be from a standpoint of affiliate marketing. I'd rather have an information packed short episode than stretch things out with ads. And speaking of episode length, it's going to vary. I have some training tips that will only take 5 minutes to run through and other topics that might stretch to half an hour or more.
